BENEFITS FOR YOUR INTESTINE: TIPS TO TRY AT HOME

August 2019

Pay more attention to your gut and support it in its daily work by following these simple tips.

EAT SLOWLY AND CHEW PROPERLY

Take your time, eat slowly and chew well (ideally 30 times). This stimulates the flow of saliva, relieves the digestive system and ensures that the body can better absorb important nutrients. These small measures can start to alleviate digestive complaints.

CREATE A RELAXED ATMOSPHERE WHILE EATING

A pleasant and quiet atmosphere during your meals will help you to enjoy them even more. In addition, your body can fully ‘concentrate’ on its digestion work without any distractions.

A COLOURFUL AND BALANCED DIET

A colourful and balanced diet made up of a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables makes an important contribution to our health, as it promotes a stable and varied intestinal flora. As there are many secondary plant substances that can be found in eating a wide variety of these foods, the omission of entire food groups is not recommended.

CONSIDER THE TIME OF DAY

Your ability to digest is the highest in the morning and during the day. Therefore, try to make sure that you eat your main meal at lunchtime whenever possible. In the evening we recommend a smaller, light dish that you should not eat too late (at least three hours before bedtime). You should not eat raw food after 4:00 pm.

EAT THREE MEALS A DAY AND FIND THE RIGHT PORTION SIZE

The frequency of meals and the correct portion size are also important for digestion. Three meals a day is optimum. To find the right portion size, simply pay a little more attention to what your body is telling you and stop eating as soon as you feel full.

PAY ATTENTION TO THE PREPARATION

If you are struggling with digestive problems, avoid cooking with lots of fat and from frying or roasting food. Switch to stewing or steaming instead.

REDUCE SALT AND USE FRESH HERBS

A healthy diet also means reducing the use of salt. Instead, fresh herbs and spices should be incorporated into your cooking, such as Ginger, which is especially known to stimulate your digestion.

DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS

Drinking water and unsweetened herbal teas between meals is ideal. You should aim to drink 1.5 litres per day. Try to avoid sugary drinks such as juices or soft drinks and alcohol if possible.
