For thousands of years, people have benefited greatly from the health-enhancing effects of sauna treatments. Regular sauna sessions don’t just strengthen the immune and cardiovascular systems; they also cleanse the skin and support detoxification.  

TIME-HONOURED TURKISH BATHS AND FINNISH TRADITIONS

In Europe, we’ve revelled in relaxing Turkish baths since the days of yore. The ancient Greeks and Romans regularly came together in sauna bays and steam rooms – to socialise, to philosophise and to promote their health. But many saunas, as we know them today, have evolved from the ancient Finnish traditions. In Nordic countries, perspiration has been encouraged for close to 2,500 years. What better way to combat the cold in northern Europe than with heat, and a robust immune system!

HOW THE BODY RESPONDS TO WARMTH

During the sauna process, body temperature increases by one or two degrees, and skin temperature by as much as 10 degrees. This is similar to temperatures experienced during a fever. The body responds by activating its immune cells. The muscles relax. You perspire profusely and the body loses up to half a litre in sweat during a 15-minute sauna session. Poisonous substances, waste products and toxins are washed out of the body. So this detox effect is just one of the many reasons why sauna sessions should be a regular additional to your FX Mayr cure, and hopefully become something you continue regularly when you return home.

Regular sauna sessions benefit the body and the soul. The stimulating warmth or heat and the subsequent cooling that is experienced promote health in a variety of ways.

ACHIEVING WELLBEING WITH VARYING TEMPERATURE SETTINGS

A hot 100 °C Finnish sauna isn’t ideal for everyone. This is why we recommend saunas or steam baths at lower temperatures to sauna newbies and people with cardiovascular issues. Here at the Original FX Mayr, we offer you three different temperature settings – in the spa area housed in the main building and in our new beach house. The hottest of these is the Finnish sauna, with typical temperatures ranging between 80 °C and 100 °C and atmospheric humidity levels averaging 8%. The sanarium offers moderate ambient temperatures ranging between 55 °C and 70 °C and 55% atmospheric humidity. And you can breathe deeply in the saline steam bath, where temperatures average 42 °C to 45 °C and atmospheric humidity stands at 100%.
