EXTREMELY REFRESHING:
WINTER SWIMMING IN LAKE WÖRTHERSEE

You have probably already read about wild swimming – its popularity has grown and grown, especially in the past year. We have the perfect location here to venture into wintery Lake Wörthersee under the guidance of our exercise therapist Nikolai.

This year, a new era of extremely refreshing, new self-discovery is beginning here at the Original FX Mayr. And the ice-cold water of Lake Wörthersee is the best place to start. Nikolai enjoys cold water swimming and has been swimming wintery laps of Lake Wörthersee for several years now. He knows the positive effects of this type of exercise, which has a long tradition in many northern countries. Swimming in cold water boosts immunity, improves circulation, burns calories, promotes mental wellbeing and reduces stress.

THE FIRST STEP
IS ALWAYS
THE COLDEST

The human body is a marvel of nature. Not only does it endure a lot and regenerate itself, it is also very adaptable. This can be observed very well when swimming in cold water. While the cold shock is still relatively high during the first swimming units, a certain habituation effect sets in with regular repetition. Of course, getting into cold water takes some effort, but it gets easier every time and it’s worth it.

A STIMULATING
COLD SHOCK FOR
THE IMMUNE SYSTEM

The immune system particularly benefits from regular cold water swimming. Stimulated by the sudden cold, it reacts by increasing the production of white blood cells (leukocytes). The cold stimulus also causes the body to release endorphins that have a stimulating effect on the immune system.
